Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 21 (IANS) Two drug peddlers who operated in various states have been arrested here with heroin worth around Rs.50 lakh ($109,000), police said Friday.
The two men, who hail from Uttarakhand, were nabbed Thursday night from Nauchandi area following a joint operation by the special operations group and district police.
'Gulam Mohammad and Vishal Verma, both aged around 25, were held while they were on their way to hand over the illegal consignment of drugs to some of their clients,' police inspector Somveer Singh told reporters Friday in Meerut, some 450 km from Lucknow.
According to police, the two routinely supplied illegal drugs to their clients in various states, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar.
'Preliminary investigations indicate the two have been into the illegal drug trade for the last four years. We are yet to ascertain where the duo had brought the heroin from. Investigations are on,' added Singh.
