Dehra Dun, Jan 26 (PTI) Flag hoisting, colourful tableaux and a variety of programmes marked the Republic Day celebrations in Uttarakhand today.Governor Margaret Alva unfurled the tricolour at the Parade Ground here, as Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and his cabinet colleagues watched on.As the state has been a victim of repeated natural disasters, the Governor emphasised on large-scale disaster management training. "Construction of buildings, roads and bridges will have to be carried out, keeping disasters under consideration," the Governor said.Expressing pride over the "successful handling" of the world's largest gathering - the Kumbh Mela, Alva said, "A team from the Chicago Business School has termed this event as the world's largest management exercise".Owing to suitable conditions and natural beauty of the state, the Indian Olympic Association entrusted the organising of the first South Asian Winter Games to Dehra Dun and Auli, the Governor said.Talking about the economic growth, Alva said, "Our growth rate at the time of creation of the state was 2.9 per cent per annum, which has now increased to about 9.5 per cent. This is higher than the national average." PTI
