Kotdwara Garhwal, Feb 2 (PTI) An elephant calf was found dead at Laldhang range of Lansdowne forest division in Uttarakhand''s Pauri district, officials here said today.
The carcass of the calf was found yesterday at Laldhang Range and prima facie it seems that the animal died of dehydration, Narendra Singh Chaudhary, Divisional Forest Officer, said here.
Following the direction of the District Magistrate Dilip Jawalkar, who visited the spot, the carcass was sent for postmortem, said officials.
With the death of the calf, the total number of reported elephant deaths in the area in January alone has gone up to 4, raising concerns among wildlife activists.
