Dehra Dun, Mar 25 (PTI) The indefinite fast by Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay today entered the fourth day even as the Uttarakhand government tried to persuade him and end the stir.Dehra Dun Superintendent of Police G S Martolia visited the site and requested Upadhyay to end his stir.However, the MLA refused to budge.Scores of Congress workers staged sit-ins at Pipaldali, Jakhanidhar and Anjanisain areas of the district and burnt effigies of Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank for not accepting the demands of people living in Tehri.Yesterday, Speaker Harbans Kapoor and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant met the agitating legislator but failed to persuade him.Upadhyay had begun his fast on March 14 but on the assurance of the government and Leader of the opposition Harak Singh Rawat, he deferred it till March 21. The MLA said he is feeling cheated as every time he sat on dharna, he was assured that his demands would be fulfilled but it never happened.Setting up a university at Ranichauri in Tehri, opening of schools, colleges and hospitals, developing infrastructural facilities, creating separate Pratapnagar district and starting water sports activities in Tehri dam lake are among the 25 demands of the legislator.
