Suspend 6 Cong MLAs suspended, forcefully evicted

Dehra Dun, Mar 22 (PTI) Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Harbans Kapoor tonight forcefully evicted and suspended six Congress MLAs, who were staging dharna inside the well of the House.

After the presentation of the budget, Tehri MLA Kishor Upadhyay resumed his indefinite fast inside the well and was joined by 5 other Congress MLAs including Rajesh Jwantha, Govind Singh Kunjwal, Mayukh Mahar, Balbir Singh Negi and Mahendra Singh Mahra.

The Congress MLAs began slogan shouting seeking various demands which include shifting of horticulture university from Bharsar to Ranichauri.

The Congress MLAs also alleged that the local schemes in their areas were not accepted by the government which was discriminating against them.

Earlier, Upadhayay had called off his indefinite fast in the night of March 14 after the assurance being given by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant that all the issues would be settled.

However, Upadhayay said he resumed his fast this evening as the government failed to meet the deadline of settling the issues by March 21.

Mahesh Chandra Principal Secretary Vidhan Sabha told PTI that the Speaker has suspended the six MLAs for three sittings.

All the six MLAs were forcefully evicted by marshals from the well.

"We were forcefully evicted and our clothes were torn," Upadhayay told reporters.

Upadhaya said he will continue his hunger strike till the demands are met.
