Chargesheet filed against former UJVNL chairman

Dehra Dun, May 13 (PTI) Vigilance today filed a charge sheet against former Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) chairman Yogendra Prasad accusing him of misusing his position for giving undue favour worth Rs 204.67 lakh to a private company.In the 900-page charge sheet, filed before Dehra Dun district court, the vigilance has also named Sandip Agrawal, Sridhar Dutt Tripathi and R P Lal as accused in the crime, said B K Juyal, Superintendent of Police (Vigilance).While Prasad and Agrawal are in jail, Tripathi is absconding and the department would now seek court's order for initiating attachment proceedings against Tripathi, he said, adding Lal has already died. Prasad was arrested on May 2.Prasad, a former NHPC Chairman, was appointed as an advisor to Uttarakhand government in 2006. Later, he took over as the Chairman of UJVNL, a state government agency for power generation in 2007.However, in 2010, he was removed from the post as the government said he had already attained 65 years, the age limit fixed for heading a corporation in the hill state.As the allegations of corruption against Prasad came to light, the government handed over the inquiry to vigilance which lodged several cases against him for misusing his position in releasing the payment worth crores of rupees to various companies without verification of work entrusted to them.During investigations, it was also found out that he awarded several consultancy works related to various power projects of the state worth Rs 204.67 lakh to Kaviyet International in which he was also working as an advisor.It was also revealed that three other office bearers of Kaviyet Agrawal, Tripathi and Lal were colleagues of Prasad during his tenure with NHPC and after retirement, they all floated the company.
