Steps to give boost to education in Uttarakhand

Dehra Dun, May 17 (PTI) Five degree colleges will be set up and nearly two dozen schools upgraded in remote and hilly areas of Uttarakhand to give a boost to education under vision 2020. The announcement was made by the Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank during his "Antyodya Vikas yatra" that has covered 35 Assembly segments, an official release said here today. Other announcements include appointing teachers to vacant posts and providing free education to children upto undergraduation level. The degree colleges would be set up in Danya area in Almora district, Pati in Champawat district, Pauri in Yamkeshwar district and Sitarganj and Gadarpur in Udhamsingh Nagar district, it added. The school girls in Thalnadi and Manubans demanded inter colleges in their areas which was accepted on the spot by the Chief Minister. Besides, Nishank also announced that ITIs and polytechnic colleges will be set up at nearly half a dozen places. The Chief Minister has asked the Chief Secretary to regularly review and monitor the implementation of the announcements made by him during the yatra.
