Reshuffle of Circle Officers’ duties: A minor reshuffle of duties of the Circle Officers was done in Dehradun. According to the SSP office, DSP Manikant Mishra has been given the charge of the Nehru Colony police station and Special Operation Group besides the Patelnagar Police station, which he already has. Navneet Singh Bhullar has been given the charge of the Clement Town police station besides the Basant Vihar police station. Sarita Dobhal will have the Doiwala and Shaspur police stations. Brinderjit Singh will have the Kotwali, Cantt and GRP police stations along with the Police Lines. Premendra Singh Dobhal will retain Dalanwala, Raipur police stations and the summon cell. The other DSPs will have the same duties.
Jumbo in kitchen: An elephant of the Rajaji National Park entered a house in a village of the Majari Grant area. The locals were scared to see the elephant in the residential area. The animal reportedly ate flour and rice from the kitchen of a house. He first damaged the kitchen and then ate the stuff available there. Youth Congress general secretary Bhankar Singh said elephants entered the residential areas and created trouble frequently.
Foreigner cheated: A foreign woman was allegedly sold fake gold by a jewellery shop at Rishikesh. Saneva, a native of Japan, has lodged a complaint against the owner of the showroom at Laksham Zhula. She had bought the jewellery on June 19.
Ramnagar-Haridwar Express from July 1: A new train from Ramnagar to Haridwar, which was announced by former Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee during her rail budget speech this year, is all set to start from July 1. The train, Ramnagar-Hardwar Express, will be leaving Ramnagar at 8.35 am and reach Haridwar at 2.30 pm. It will leave Haridwar at 6.40 pm and reach Ramnagar at 11.40 pm.
Shortage of docs at health centre: Residents of the Kaladhungi area of Nainital are irked over the failure of the administration to depute doctors at the Community Health Centre, which is reeling under an acute shortage of doctors. According to reports, there has been no child specialist at the centre for almost a year now. Locals said though a child specialist was deputed at the centre a year ago, he did not come. The residents have threatened to launch an agitation if their concern was not addressed at the earliest.
Man’s body found in vehicle: The recovery of a body from a vehicle in Lama Chaur, Haldwani, on Wednesday evening led to a commotion in the area. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Lal Singh Negi of Badripura locality. According to sources, his neck was tied with a string to the roof of the vehicle. Sulphas tablets were also recovered from the vehicle. The police has sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
Tanker carrying LPG overturns: A major accident was averted when a tanker carrying 18 quintals of LPG overturned at a bottling plant at Mota Haldu near Haldwani on Wednesday evening. The driver of the tanker is learnt to have sustained injuries. However, there was no leakage of gas. The authorities at the plant reached the spot and took the driver, Suresh Yadav, to a hospital. Police personnel have been deployed at the spot and arrangements are being made to get an emergency recycling vehicle to empty the gas tanker before it is removed from the spot.
Engine derails near Ramnagar station: An engine of a goods train derailed near the Ramnagar station on Wednesday. The incident took place during shunting. It is learnt that action has been ordered against the engine driver.
