UJVNL sets new record in power generation

Dehradun, June 17 -- With the generation of 4906.26 MU (million unit) of electricity against the target of 4798 MU of electricity through hydro power projects across the State, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) officials claimed that not only have they achieved the target in the last financial year but also set a new record for the State. After terming power generation as most beneficial for the State, the department officials said that surplus energy will help the residents to beat the outage.

As per the information provided by the department, 22.214 MU electricity was generated by UJVNL on June, 15 is believed to be the highest power generation in a day since the State came into being existence. Earlier, one-day power generation was 21.90 MU of power on October last year. Apart from that, 549.521 MU of power was generated in May against the target of 460.150 MU which is also believed to be new record set by the department.

Since most of the hydro power projects have been generating power at optimum level, officials claimed that Uttarakhand will not face shortage of power in the near future. It is to be noted that UJVNL has earlier also broken various old records in terms of power generation that helped the department concerned to meet with the daily power requirement of the State.

Department officials claimed that adequate flow of river water and trained manpower are among the few reasons for optimum power generation in the State.

The energy crisis that had hit the entire State is over now as the increasing gap between demand and supply of electricity has also come down with increased power generation in the State. During its lean time, the department had to over withdraw electricity from the national grid to meet with the power requirement of the State.
