Uttarakhand: Commission to reorganise civic bodies soon

Dehra Dun, Jun 1 (PTI) The Uttarakhand government will set up a commission, which would carry out a study to accord status of nagar panchayats to new settlements in the state. The civic bodies reorganisation commission would also give suggestions regarding expansion of limits of various existing municipal councils and corporations in the state, Urban Development Minister Pritam Singh Panwar today told the assembly. In reply to a question by BJP's Teerath Singh Rawat, the minister said there is a population limit of 10,000 in the hills and 20,000 in the plains to get a status of a nagar panchayat. Demands seeking allocation of status nagar panchayats are coming from various places, Panwar said, adding that Satpuli Market area of Pauri district would soon be given this status. Besides, preliminary notification for creation of six more Nagar Panchayats - Jonk Swargashram, Kapkot, Gangolihaat, Ukhimath, Agastmuni and Pokhari - have also been issued, he said.
