The 125th birth anniversary of veteran Congress leader Govind
Ballabh Pant was today celebrated in his native village Khunt, with
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna terming him as a great leader
"who worked a lot for the nation and its unity."
Bahuguna along with Minister of State for Agriculture Harish Rawat
and MP Pradip Tamta visited the Khunt village, about 25 km from here
today.
Bahuguna garlanded the statue of Pant, who has also served as Union Home Minister and chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
Remembering Pant the chief minister said "he was a great leader who worked a lot for the nation and its unity."
We are committed to work on the dreams of the great leader, he said.
Bahuguna announced that local Inter College in Khunt will be renamed
on GB Pant. Also the name of PG courses as proposed for Almora Medical
College will be mentioned on GB Pant's name, sources said.
He promised to work on demands raised by the local MLAs of Almora, Dwarahat and Kapkot.
Students of different schools presented cultural programmes at the occasion.
