Almora, Uttarakhand, Sept 2: A two-and-a-half year old male
leopard which strayed into Narsinghbari adjoining Officers Colony in
Almora on Friday, died of an overdose of tranquiliser shots given by the
forest department.
The leopard attacked a shopkeeper Nandaballabh Tiwari, injuring him, even as police and forest department staff were on guard.
One
of the forest department staff fired a tranquilizer shot, and the
animal vanished. As police and forest officials went out in search of
the leopard, he was sighted again, and another tranquilizer was shot.
The
leopard collapsed in a heap. He was rushed to a vet doctor who referred
him to Pantnagar, but the animal died on the way, said Avneesh Kumar, a
forest dept official.
