During the arson at Mayur Vihar phase 3 in east Delhi on Sunday, a 26-year-old man was killed in police firing.
Vinod
Kumar Negi, was rushed to nearby hospital from there he was shifted to
Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
He suffered bullet injuries at the left side of his chest.
Negi,
who hails from Pauri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand, was living with
his cousin and uncle at Khoda village. He was working at a private
company in Noida.
On Sunday, he was playing cricket when he
along with his friends came to know about the incident. They too joined
the mob and started attacking police officials.
Negi’s mother lives at the village and his father expired a few years ago.
The uncle and cousin of Negi went to New Ashok Nagar police station on Monday morning where police recorded their statements.
A panel of doctors will be constituted to file a post-mortem report.
During the riot, a group of police officials were trapped among the mob, which was pelting stones and cans filled with petrol.
In a bid to save their lives and disperse the crowd, after giving warning officials fired bullets in air.
How Negi was hit
A
single bullet ‘accidently’ hit Negi and bullet splinters injured other
two persons, said a source. One of the injured was identified as Anil
Verma, 35, who is also a resident of Khoda village. He was rushed to Lal
Bahadur Shastri hospital, where he is recuperating.
Police refuted the death of Negi due to police firing.
“The
cause of death is yet to be ascertained. There was no firing from
police’s side. The gun of a constable was snatched. It is missing,” said
a senior police officer
