Lines trip, several colonies go without power in Doon

Following this year's first rainfall in the State, several colonies went without power on Thursday due to the tripping of lines. However, department officials claimed that testing and repairing of lines were immediately started after receiving complaints and power supply was resumed, except few localities of the capital city where  testing of lines  continued till late in the evening.

Department officials told that linemen were instructed to tighten loose connections due to which some areas remained without power for up to two to three hours since today morning till late in the evening. Residents witnessed power cut for two to three hours on Monday due to maintenance works which was carried out across the length and breadth of the capital city.

Among those colonies which were affected due to the maintenance works include Old Dalanwala, Balbir road, Bhagat  Singh Colony, Chander road, Luxmi road, Jogiwala, Govindgarh, Gorakhpur, Kedarpuram, Patel Nagar, Khurbura etc. Department sources told that tightening of loose connections has made mandatory for ensuring round the clock electricity to the residents especially after rough weather.

He claimed that the power supply was restored to most of the areas except few colonies where testing of lines continued till late in the evening. However, the supply of potable water was also disrupted in these colonies.

As per the latest data complied by the state power department, the demand of power was 34.27million units against the availability of 32.49 million units having deficit of around two million units in the State.

Unable to cope up with the growing demand of electricity in the State, the State Power Department implemented load shedding in Haridwar, Nainital and Udhamsinghbagar districts of the State to meet with the daily power demand of the State. Department sources told that power supply was resumed in most of the areas.
