With an aim to ensure the physical appearance of the medical officers in the higher parts of Uttarakhand, the State Health department has recently taken a decision to make appraisal of those medical officers who are posted in the State medical cadre on contractual basis.
The department officials told that the format of appraisal has been finalised by the department and would be followed from the next financial year onwards.
It is not wrong to quote the despite issuing several notices to the doctors and even after offering lucrative terms and perks to the medical officers to join the State medical cadre, medical officers are not coming forward to join the medical cadre. The shortage of medical offices is still prevailing in Uttarakhand as it was to be at the time of inception of State, nearly 12 years ago.
The State Health department figures clearly highlighted that 1200 doctors are working against the sanctioned post of 2400 medical officers in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand, resulted villagers are forced to traverse several kilometres to access to the medical facilities.
After understanding the plight of the villagers, State Health department has decided to appoint medical officers on contractual basis and also revised their salary.
The appraisal would be primarily applicable to around 180 doctors and stress would be laid down by the department on the attendance of the medical officers and number of OPD (Out Patients Department) while making the appraisal for the renewal of contracts.
Sources said that contractual year would be also increased from one to three year for overcoming the shortage of medical officers in Uttarakhand. One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that the appraisal of the medical officers, who are posted in the health centres on contractual basis would helped the department for ensuring the presence of the medical officers.
