Uttarakhand: Villagers walk several kilometres to access basic relief material

Sonprayag: Three weeks after the Uttarakhand devastation, many villages have lost connection with the outside world. The villagers have to walk for several kilometres to even access basic relief material.

 

CNN-IBN traveled to one such village where locals are forced to walk many kilometres even to access relief materials. The roads leading to Gaurikund from Sonprayag have been completely ravaged. Similarly all the important roads of Sonprayag area are cut off as well. The relief work cannot go beyond Sonprayag by road.

 

The hotels and restaurants have been completely destroyed. It will take several months if not years to start the repair and reconstruction work. However, people are hoping that the reconstruction starts and is completed as soon as possible
