Life insurers have so far received claims adding up to around Rs 100 crore from Uttarakhand which was ravaged by flash floods and landslides in June.
"Individual companies have set up special camps to settle claims," said V Manickam, secretary general of the Life Insurance Council, the body that acts as the interface between all stakeholders in the insurance sector. He said general insurance companies had received claims of over Rs 1,500 crore, but expected the final figure to be double that.
"Companies are still getting claims. The process is not over yet," Rajesh Sud, CEO and MD, Max Life Insurance and chairman of the Life Insurance Awareness Committee of the Insurance Council, said.
