DEHARDAUN: In an effort to appreciate excellence in the field of education, Uttarakhand governor K K Paul has decided to honour teachers with 'Governor's Teachers Award' every year on September 5.
The governor has proposed that two best teachers (one male and one female) will be selected each year from the government schools of every district for the award to be given on Teachers' Day, the release said.
Thus, 26 teachers from the state's 13 districts will be honored every year, it said, adding, a certificate and a cash award of Rs 5,000 will be given to each such teacher.
The governor said it was the responsibility of the entire society to honour teachers dedicated to giving knowledge and guidance to students and making them good and responsible citizens and good human beings.
"Teachers prepare the youth to contribute to nation building. Honouring teachers has been our tradition. Initiatives like these boost the morale of teachers," Paul was quoted as saying.
This is the third such initiative announced by the new governor, a Raj Bhawan release said.
Earlier, Paul had announced annual awards for the top scorers among 10th and 12th class students of government schools and best performing schools.
