Dehradun, 3 Jul: Brigadier KG Behl (Retd), President of AICC, UK, has in a press release expressed distress at the digging of roads either for laying new water pipelines or sewer lines as it obstructs flow of traffic, causes accidents and damages vehicles.
The unevenly dug up roads have sunk at many places due to rains and it becomes difficult for two vehicles to pass, he has complained. Many times the wheels of the cars get stuck in the drains alongside the roads and it becomes difficult to pull them out where the drains are deep. The drains get filled with water and become more dangerous for drivers who are not conversant with the areas. He states that the roads are in real bad shape and need immediate repairs which may turn worse when the rains begin in full swing. Senior citizens are finding it very difficult to even cross roads and go out for minor purchases. The splashing of dirty water whenever a vehicle passes over sunk portions is another problem that is very serious for elderly people.
He has suggested that water bound Macadam be used to repair the roads, as they would not sink in the rainy season and remain even. The treatment has been agreed to by the officials digging those roads as they cannot make tarred roads. He has requested the DM to get further digging of roads stopped till the rains last and order WBC treatment whereever digging has been done.
