Uttarakhand Govt. doctors withdraw strike call

Dehradun (PTI): Doctors working in state government hospitals in Uttarakhand, who had threatened to go on strike from on Tuesday demanding non-practicing allowance and promotions, have withdrawn their call after assurances by Health Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank.

"We had a meeting with Health Minister this morning. He assured us that our demands would be fulfilled. Following his assurance, we decided not to go on strike," said D P Joshi, general secretary of Provincial Medical Health Services Association (PMHSA).

Doctors had been doing OPD duty for only two hours everyday for the past month to press for their demands. Joshi said the doctors would now do full OPD duty.

He said the demand for NPA was raised as implementation of Sixth Pay Commission has created major differences in the salaries and perks given to doctors working in Central government hospitals and their state hospitals counterparts.
