Advocates boycott work to protest amendment in CrPC

Dehradun (PTI): Court proceedings across Uttarakhand were on Friday affected as around 8,000 advocates boycotted work to protest against the Centre's decision to give police the right to grant bail in some special cases.

Advocates of Uttarakhand High Court and lawyers of lower courts gathered at the District Court here to protest the amendment in CrPC authorising police to approve or reject the bail of an accused in cases where the maximum punishment is seven years.

Secretary of Dehradun Bar Association Prithvipal Singh Chauhan said, "The agitation will be intensified if the government does not revert its decision."
