Free treatment to BPL families in Uttarakhand

DEHRA DUN: With an aim to provide free medical facilities to people belonging to BPL families in the state, Uttarakhand government has signed an agreement with two insurance companies. Under the “Universal Medical Insurance Scheme'', which was inked last weekend between the state government and United Insurance Company and Oriental Insurance Company, nearly 30 lakh population of 6,23,490 BPL families would be benefited.

A card would be issued to all the BPL families, said Mr Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, State Health Minister and by showing the card, they can avail free medical treatment in the hospitals.

Also, if any BPL family member becomes handicapped in an accident, he will be provided with an assistance of Rs 25,000. Under the scheme, the women of BPL families would be provided Rs 2,500 for child birth through normal delivery and Rs 5,000 through ce sarean operation.
