Got support from PM for Kumbh: Nishank

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” has credited the Centre-State cooperation for the preparations of the upcoming Mahakumbh at Hardwar, hoping the three-month-long event would pass off peacefully.

“I met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the subject some three months ago. This was followed by telephonic conversations with him on the issue, on three occasions, and the Prime Minister has been extremely supportive,” Nishank said on Sunday. “The Kumbh is about the prestige of the country and not the state (of Uttarakhand) alone,” he added. The Mahakumbh kicks off this Thursday (January 14) and “around 5 to 6 crore pilgrims would visit Hardwar over the next three months”, Nishank said.

“While the budgetary allocation for the Kumbh in the past used to be in the range of Rs 125 crore, we have earmarked a Rs 525-crore fund for the Kumbh this time,” he added.
