Uttarakhand bans sale of non- iodised salt

Dehradun: In view of various diseases being caused by the deficiency of iodine in ordinary salt, the state government has banned the sale of non iodised salt in Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand Health Services Director General HC Bhatt has issued orders to this effect. After this order, ordinary salt would only be available for consumption and use for animals and not humans.

It is notable that the Forest Department uses salt in heavy quantities for consumption of elephants and people use salt for their cattle.

The Health Department officials have been asked to keep an eye on the sale of salt in the region and also go for testing of suspicious specimens.

The government has also asked the shopkeepers to be sensitive on the issue and discontinue sale of ordinary salt to humans.

It has also asked the people to store the iodised salt in a proper manner away from damp places so that its properties are restored.
