Dehradun, Oct 3 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank today reviewed the situation arising out of the devastation caused by heavy rains and sought Rs 21,200.79 crore as relief package from the Centre.
A day after holding talks with a central team that toured affected regions, Nishank asked all district magistrates to take up reconstruction works on a priority basis and provide enhanced relief to the affected without any delay, an official release said.
The chief minister said residents of 233 villages in the state would be shifted to safer locations. "We have to rebuild these villages to check the menace of migration from the hilly region and instill confidence among the affected people."
He also sought relaxation in tough norms of the central relief fund pointing out that the compensation of Rs 6000 per hectare for agriculture land was very less keeping in view the tough geographical conditions of the hill state.
Nearly 200 people were killed in the state during this monsoon season while thousands others were rendered homeless.
Almora is one of the worst-affected district where over 40 people were killed in landslides.
