Uttarakhand plans agriculture portal

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Agricultural Department is planning to launch a comprehensive agriculture portal within next two months.

The portal named Uttarakhand Krishi Prabha would provide agriculture related information to the farmers and agri- traders which would enable them to take the right decision regarding the crops and enhance their income, State Agriculture Secretary Om Prakash said.

"The need for such a portal was being felt since long, so as to facilitate exchange of information to the farmers and traders engaged in the agri business," Om Prakash said.

The portal might also incorporate SMS service for the farmers giving information about various crops. Such a scheme is presently being implemented in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka under the PPP mode.

Once set up, the portal would provide information about the current mandi rates to the farmers so that they do not suffer losses due to lack of information.
