Madmaheshwar Temple in Uttarakhand

Situated in Rudraprayag, the Madmaheshwar Temple is one of the Five Kedar Temples. There is a legendary connection of this place to the birth of Lord Shiva, According to mythical source the stomach of Lord Shiva emerged from here. So devotees throng the temple premise during Shiva Ratri and other festivals related to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is one of the holy Trinities; Lord Brahma is the creator, Lord Vishnu is the preserver and Lord Shiva is the Destroyer.

A towering statue of Har Gauri measuring over a meter high is to be found in the Kali temple at Madmaheshwar. The trek from Kalimath to Madmaheshwar is characterized by wild and amazing natural beauty and encircled by the Chaukhamba, Kedarnath and Neelkanth peaks. Gaundar at the junction of the Madmaheshwar Ganga and the Markanga Ganga, is the last settlement before one finds oneself at Madmaheshwar, the place where Lord Shiva is paid homage to in the form of the belly or the navel.

Madmaheshwar is basically a delightful little village in the district of Rudraprayag in Uttaranchal, well known in the tourism circuit of Uttarakhand for its peaceful milieu. The place is famous for the Madmaheshwar Temple, a sacred shrine consecrated to Lord Shiva. Dolda Tibba, a picturesque peak is another attraction nearby. Ransi, Raun, Kalimath, Sonprayag and Gaurikund are located in the vicinity of Madmaheshwar. Ukhimath, a notable Hindu site of pilgrimage, famous as the winter seat of Lord Kedarnath, is quite close to this place.

How to reach Madmaheshwar Temple:

Foot : reach Madmaheshwar, you can trek from Kalimath.

Rail : The nearest major railway halt is Rishikesh Railway Station. It is located about 140 kilometers away. The place is linked by rail with all the significant towns and cities of India

Air : Jollygrant Airport is the closest one, at a distance of 110 kilometers.

Road: Rudraprayag has an excellent bus service to Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Tehri etc.

Madmaheshwar is an important place of tourist interest in northern Uttarakhand.
