Uttarakhand Kranti Dal says it supported Khanduri, not BJP

Kotdwara (U''khand), Jan 3 (PTI) Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) supported BJP to form the government in the state because of its opposition to the Congress and not because it supported the ideology of BJP, a senior party leader has said.

UKD senior vice president Shail Shakti Kaparwan, while discussing the reasons for withdrawing support to BJP, told PTI that his party supported former chief minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri who enjoyed the image of a clean and honest politician and who wanted to fight the "corrupt" Congress.

"But, BJP not only replaced the honest chief minister but their leaders did not do anything on the nine issues for which support was extended to it by UKD," Kaparwan said.

The BJP is engaged in its internal feuds since the last four years, he alleged, adding, the government did not do any thing on any issue raised by UKD at the time of support, including the land reform act.
When asked why UKD did not withdraw support when BJP high command removed Khanduri, Kaparwan said the party was waiting for the reaction of the new chief minister to their demands, and later when the BJP was showing callousness, UKD decided to withdraw support.

He alleged that development in hilly areas of the state is blocked by corrupt politicians and inappropriate policies.

Kaparwan said the UKD will start its Pahad Bachhao (Save the Hills) movement from January 14 and raise issues of making Gairisain as the state''s capital and original resident certificate mandatory for provincial government jobs, land reforms etc.

The party will organise blockades and gheraos of BJP leaders and officials to press their demands, he said.
