Dehra Dun, Mar 9 (PTI) The State Vigilance has served a notice to former Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) Chairman Yogendra Prasad, who is facing charges of corruption, asking him to appear before it by Mar 14, an official said today.
"The state vigilance has sent a notice to Prasad on his addresses in Dehradun and Greater Noida," Superintendent of Police Brijendra Juyal said.
If Prasad does not report to vigilance by Mar 14, the attachment proceedings would be initiated against him after taking permission from the court, he added.
A fresh notice was issued after vigilance succeeded in getting the stay vacated on the arrest of Prasad by Uttarakhand High Court last week on the ground that he was not cooperating in the investigations.
Prasad, a former NHPC Chairman, was appointed as an advisor to Uttarakhand government in 2006. Later he took over as Chairman of UJVNL, a state government agency for power generation in 2007. However, in 2010 he was removed from the post, as the government said he had already attained 65 years, the age limit fixed for heading a corporation in the hill state.
After allegations of corruption surfaced against Prasad, the government handed over the inquiry to vigilance which lodged several cases against him for misusing his position in releasing the payment worth crores of rupees to various companies without verification of work entrusted to them.
