Environment Ministry approves 7 Uttarakhand projects

New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) The Environment Ministry has given nod to seven projects in Uttarakhand relating to collection of stones, boulders and other minor mineral from river beds.

The approval meets a long standing demand from the hill state with its MPs meeting Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh last week to discuss the matter.

The projects cleared by the Ministry''s Environmental Appraisal and Forest Appraisal committees pertains to collection of stones, boulders and other minor minerals from Gola and Sharda river beds in Champawat district and from Dabka and Koshi river beds in Nainital district.

The clearances have been given till May 31, 2012, said a statement issued by the Ministry.

The other projects approved are collection of minor Mineral (reta, bajri and boulders) from the river bed of River Jakhan-1 and Jakhan-2 and from the river bed of River Song-3.
