Sign forged to resume 330 Mw power project in Uttarakhand

According to Uttarakhand police, a case has been filed against unidentified persons by Uttarakhand Power Secretary Mr Umakant Panwar for forging his signature in a letter directing resumption of work on a 330MW hydropower project at Srinagar in Pauri district.

Mr Panwar said that an unidentified person had forged his signature in a letter faxed to the Managing Director of Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited directing him to resume the work on the hydel project being developed by GVK on Alaknanda River without shifting the famous Dhari Devi temple.

The work on the project was suspended by the government in 2010 after the local people launched an agitation against plans to shift the Dhari Devi temple from the project site.

The temple is situated at the project site and GVK had proposed that the entire temple premises could be lifted to a nearby higher hill. The locals however did not agree to the proposal.
