Uttarakhand crosses one crore mark in population

Dehradun, Apr 2 (PTI) Population of Uttarakhand has increased to 1.11 crore and the literacy rate gone up to over 79 per cent, Director, Census (Uttarakhand), Snehlata Agarwal said. The state is on 17th position in terms of literacy rate and it stands on 20th position on the population ladder of the country, she added. The population of the state in 2001 census was 84,89,349 and now it has increased to 1,011,6752, she said. Providing a break up of the population she said there are 51,54,178 men and 49,62,574 women in the state. Talking about the literacy rate she said that it has increased to 79.63 per cent as compared to 71 per cent in the last census.
