Karamchari Sangh holds protest: Members of the Uttarakhand Ministerial Collectorate Karamchari Sangh held a protest outside the office of the Chief Revenue Officer here on Friday. They are demanding the restructuring of collectorate as promised by the government in 2008. “If the state failed to fulfil our demand, we will go on an indefinite strike from June 1,” said Rajinder Kumar, state president of the sangh.
Theft charge: In his complaint to the police, Satpal Maharaj, Congress MP from Pauri Garhwal, has alleged that an employee had taken away Rs 70,000 from his Dehradun residence. A case has been registered.
Elephant calf: An elephant calf was found dead in the Rajaji National Park area on Friday. According to park officials, the calf died of hunger.
Meeting: Dehradun District Magistrate Sachin Kurve held a meeting with public representatives of the Nyay Panchayat Thana here on Friday. They appraised him of problems related to electricity, roads, gas and education being faced by residents. On this, the DM asked the Executive Engineer (Electricity), Executive Engineer (Jal Nigam) to organise a seminar from June 2 to June 7 and solve thses problems.

Man kills cousin over land dispute: A man allegedly shot his cousin over a land dispute in Udham Singh Nagar. According to information, a dispute over a piece of land erupted between Om Prakash Singh Yadav and his cousin, Thakur Singh, in Khunsara village on Thursday. During the heated exchange of words, Thakur Singh allegedly opened fire at his cousin. He was taken to a health centre, where he succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, Thakur Singh shot himself in the abdomen and his condition is stated to be critical.
Diarrhoea cases: A large number of cases of diarrhoea and viral fever are being in Haldwani. It is learnt that most of the patients are from slum areas. Wards at hospitals are full to capacity and the authorities are having a tough time attending to them. City Magistrate, Haldwani, Prakash Chandra visited Base Hospital in the town and took stock of preparations to deal with the inflow of patients. He has ordered the authorities, particularly officials of the Jal Sansthan, to take effective measures to prevent the spread of diseases.
Royal Bengal tiger: A Royal Bengal tiger that was trapped from the Bijrani range of the Jim Corbett National Park two years ago was released for public viewing at the Nainital zoo on Thursday morning. The tiger has become a centre of attraction at the zoo over the past two years. About 11 ft tall and 270 kg in weight, the tiger was trapped following protests that it had turned a man-eater. However, the Forest Department is of the opinion that he is not a man-eater as its canines and paws are intact. It took more than eight days for zoo officials to shift him to the present enclosure, as the wild cat was unwilling to enter a cage once again.
Three killed in mishap: Three persons were killed and three others sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in fell into a gorge near Bhatraujkhan in the Ramnagar area. The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Balam Singh and 38-year-old Mohan Singh the driver, Govind Singh. The injured have been admitted to Government Health Centre, Bhatraujkhan.
Cyclist crushed to death: A cyclist was crushed to death by a car on the Rampur Road in Haldwani. The deceased has been identified as Bihari Lal of Ambedkar Nagar. A case has been registered in this regard and the car has also been impounded.
