Uttarakhand Minister Prakash Pant Interacts with CII members Spells out State Government Initiatives for worker welfare

Dehradun: Interacting with CII members today at Dehradun, Shri Prakash Pant , Hon’ble Minister for Labour & Planning, Government of Uttarakhand spelt out the worker welfare initiatives. He said that ESI Hospitals at Dehradun, Haridwar and U S Nagar are in the pipeline. Land for a medical college is also being sought. He briefed the members on the ESI biometric card scheme and sought industry’s support in enrolling the registered workers in the scheme. Responding to the CII suggestions on using IT for simplifying labour compliances and procedures, Shri Pant said that all 18 employment exchanges in the State are being made online.

Apprising the members on the PPP initiatives in the State, Hon’ble Minister said that currently 82 PPP projects are in various stages, 13 are in the implementation stage. He invited industry to come forward with project ideas and work with the PPP cell created by the State Government.

Presenting CII’s suggestions on labour reforms and labour welfare, Mr Atul P Renavikar, Chairman CII Kumaon Zone spelt out the procedural changes in the Factories Act which could simplify labour compliances. He also stressed on the need for strengthening the ESI services in the State and working towards an ESI system based on the model of cashless insurance. He also emphasized on the need for creating awareness amongst workers on the ESI schemes, as many of these are freshers.

Some of the other suggestions made by CII members included the urgent need for creating workmen housing, better transport facilities within the industrial areas as well as to the industrial areas and greater number of ITIs for skilled manpower.

Earlier while welcoming the Hon’ble Minister, Dr S Farooq, Chairman CII Uttarakhand State Council, suggested that the ESI dispensaries should be set up near the industrial clusters. Giving the example of China, which has emerged as the manufacturing capital of the world, Dr Farooq said that Uttarakhand should work towards similar success. Introducing CII to the Hon’ble Minister, Dr Farooq said that CII was a 116 year old organization and sees its role as a ‘Development Institution’. The four pillars of its work are Policy Advocacy, Business Development for membership, Competitiveness of Industry and Connecting with Society, added Dr Farooq.

Senior CII members and Past Chairs including Mr V K Dhawan, Mrs Lovelena Mody, Mr Hemant Arora, Mr Rakesh Oberai & Mr Rajiv Berry were also present.
