Dehra Dun, Jun 26 (PTI) A Congress MLA was today evicted from a government bungalow alloted to him as a minister during the previous regime and his belongings were dumped in the MLA transit hostel. Kishor Upadhyay and his family were not present at the residence when the state estates department team along with police reached the bungalow in the Yamuna colony here. The team broke open the doors of the bungalow, took out the MLA's belongings and shifted them to an MLA transit hostel. The officials, when contacted said the action was taken because Upadhyay was continuing to live in the bungalow, which was allotted to him as a minister. The action of the Uttarakhand government invited wrath from the main opposition Congress. Congress workers led by Leader of the Opposition Harak Singh Rawat staged a dharna outside Upadhyay's residence. "I want to ask the state government as to why the eviction was done when the MLA and his family were not at home," Rawat told reporters. Rawat criticized the state government for adopting different standards for MLAs belonging to BJP and those belonging to Congress and other parties. Upadhyay, who is in Kolkata said that he had recently raised several cases of corruption against the government and the Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and claimed that a search of papers and documents related to those scams was conducted in the name of eviction. Upadhyay said he will not be scared by such actions and would continue to fight against the "corrupt" BJP government.PTI
