LUCKNOW: The BSP on Friday sacked Uttarakhand unit president Meghraj Singh Jaraware on charges of involvement in criminal activities. Jaraware, who is also a member of legislative council (MLC) on BSP ticket, has been replaced with Sooraj Mal.
The decision was taken after name of Jaraware's son and his close relatives figured in a bride abduction case. The party has also expelled MLC's son Amit, nephews Sunny and Sonu and others named along with them in the case. Significantly, the Opposition parties had given a call to hold a Bahu Beti Bachao Panchayat on July 19 in Saharanpur to highlight increase in crime against women in UO and abuse of power by BSP leaders.
Amit along with Sonu and Sunny had tried to abduct a bride from her marriage ceremony on July in Deoband area of Saharanpur situated in UP-Uttarakhand border. Amit had claimed that Aruna was in love with Sunny and was being married to some other man forcibly by her parents. However, the three accused were arrested by the police and sent to jail.

There were allegations that Jaraware threatened girl's father Ashok Sharma and offered him money to withdraw the complaint. The Opposition parties also accused basic education minister in Maya cabinet Dharm Singh Saini of trying to protect Jaraware. Reacting to the allegations, chief minister Mayawati ordered arrest of the accused. The police has booked the accused on charges of kidnapping a woman to compel her for marriage.
