AMRITSAR: A congregation of Sikhs from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand has decided to constitute two committees in their states and one centre board, under aegis of Sarav Pardesh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SPGPC) to consider extending support to a particular political party of these two states, that are going to polls in the near future.
The decisions were taken in a meeting in Delhi on Monday. SPGPC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda told TOI on Monday that the committee would be constituted to understand interests and political inclinations of Sikhs living in the two states. The committees would submit their report to the board.
"Sikhs will extend support only to that political party that will fulfill their political aspirations," Jhinda said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Paramjit Singh Sarna said Sikh leaders from various states discussed their problems and chalked out their strategy for the ensuing elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand.
He said that during the meeting, education minister in Delhi's Shiela Dixit government – Arvinder Singh Lovely – exhorted the Sikhs to extend support to Congress.
