Uttarakhand HC stays arrest of Acharya Balkrishan till August 29

DEHRADUN: A day after a single-judge bench of Uttarakhand high court refused to hear a writ filed by an advocate on behalf of Ram Dev aide and general secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust Acharya Balkrishan urging it to stay CBI cases against him, another single-bench of the high court on Friday stayed his arrest till August 29.

The court made the decision based on cases already filed against him and asked Acharya Balkrishan to submit his passport with the registrar-general by August 5.

The single judge bench of justice Tarun Aggarwal granted stay on a writ filed by a advocate SK Aggarwal on behalf of Acharya Balkrishan.

The petition urged the court to stay the possibility of Acharya Balkrishan's arrest with immediate effect.

Advocates SK Aggarwal and Rajendra Dobhal pleaded the case on behalf of Acharya Balkrishan.

They said the court has also directed Acharya Balkrishan to appear before the CBI on August 3 for questioning in connection with cases of forged passport and documents filed against him on July 24.

The court has asked Balkrishan to cooperate with the agency in the investigations so that the truth comes out.

The court also directed Dehradun branch of CBI to produce before the court all evidence and documents related to the passport during the next hearing on August 29.

They said the court also asked Acharya Balkrishan to submit his passport with Registrar-General of HC by August 5.
