Eleven Inspectors promoted as DSP
s: Six Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were transferred while 11 Inspectors were promoted to the rank of DSP here on Monday. According to the information provided by the state police headquarters (PHQ), DSP Dinesh Thapliyal has been made the Circle Officer (LIU). Chief Security Officer of the Vidhan Sabha and the Secretariat Harinder Pal Singh will be the Zonal Officer (Hardiwar). Circle Officer (PHQ) Jagender Singh will take Harinder’s responsibility. CO Shajahan Javad Khan has been transferred to Haridwar district from Udham Singh Nagar district while CO Renu Lohani will go to Udham Singh Nagar at Khan’s place from Champawat district. CO (Pauri) Lokjeet Singh has been made the Assistant Commandant of the 46th PAC. Other than this, 11 police Inspectors have been elevated as DSPs.

Record power generation: Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) has produced record electricity this month. A press statement issued by the UJVNL said against the fixed target of 535.150 mega unit, the nigam produced 624.145 mega unit of electricity. This is not only the highest production in the month of July but also of the whole period since the time the nigam was founded.

A clarification: In the caption of a photograph of the health camp organised by Military Hospital, Roorkee, carried on page four on August 1, 2011, it was inadvertently mentioned that the camp was held in Dehradun. It was held at Roorkee. The error is regretted.


Foundation stone of Kisan Bhawan laid:
The foundation stone of Kisan Bhawan that will be constructed on the Thakur Dan Singh Co-operative premises was laid by Cabinet minister Balwant Singh Bhauryal at Almora on Monday. It will be constructed at a cost of Rs 84.62 lakh. The minister said by initiating its construction, the government had fulfilled a long-pending demand of the farmers of the region. He said the building would not only be used to train farmers apart from organising workshops and seminars, it would also serve as a farmer hostel in the days to come. He said the government had launched several schemes across Uttarakhand to give a boost to the co-operative sector in the state.

Replacement of faulty power cables sought: Residents of Vishnu Nagar locality, Haldwani, had to incur losses on account of high voltage as several domestic electrical appliances were burnt. According to reports, a sudden flow of high voltage resulted in the charring of appliances like refrigerators, television sets, water purifiers, tube lights, bulbs and fans. They have sought the replacement of faulty power cables at the earliest.

‘Indecent’ conduct of cops flayed: Residents of Pachananpur village near Dineshpur in Udham Singh Nagar have protested against the alleged indecent conduct of some police personnel with women from a family who had lodged a complaint against some people for having allegedly abducting and selling a girl from their family. The matter came to light four days ago as some police personnel had gone to the complainant family’s house and allegedly behaved indecently with women of the family. The villagers took out a protest march against the police on Sunday and also gheraoed the local police station. The matter was resolved only when senior officials expressed regret over the incident and gave an assurance to them to arrest the accused in the case at the earliest.

PDS outlet owner held for cheating: A Public Distribution System (PDS) outlet owner was arrested in Champawat for allegedly selling PDS foodgrain in the open market. According to sources, the authorities got a tip-off from an anonymous caller that the shopkeeper, Laluvapani Baladatt Joshi, was selling foodgrains in the open market. The local Tehsildar was asked to conduct a raid and the accused was nabbed red-handed while selling 10 bags of rice. On the scrutiny of his stock, it was found that 20 bags of sugar were also not accounted for. A case has been registered against him.
