UKD(P) protest continues
: The protest by the district unit of the Uttrakhand Kranti Dal (Panwar) before the Vidhan Sabha entered 17th day on Wednesday. Party president Trivender Singh Panwar said if the state government ignored the compulsion of domicile certificate during the counselling of the UP PMT test, they would not let the counselling take place. He said he had directed all district presidents of the party to be vigilant on the counselling day. District president NK Gusain said their party supported the demand to declare Chakrata as a new district. AP Juyal, Narender Singh Rawat, Promila Rawat and Imran Ahmad were also present.

Work hit: MP: Uttarkhand Garhwal MP Satpal Maharaj has said the protected area status of the Askot Sanctuary has affected development activities in Didihat, Munsiyari and Dharchula areas of Pithoragarh. Maharaj has said he has raised the issue during zero hour of the Lok Sabha and asserted that development in 111 villages has been affected due to the protected area status of musk deer sanctuary.

Emu rearing: Australian origin bird emu is being promoted in Dehradun for poultry purposes. At a meeting held at Brahmawala village in Dehradun, Sachin Kurve said the emu rearing could be a major source of employment in the village areas. Dehradun District Magistrate Sachin Kurve said the villages are being encouraged in taking to rearing of emu. The DM also held that talks would be held with the officials of NABARD towards providing easy loans to the farmers for rearing of emu.


Cleaning of drains ordered: Almora District Magistrate DS Garbyal has said that any laxity in addressing the problems being faced by the people will not be tolerated. Talking to mediapersons at Almora on Wednesday, Garbyal said he had ordered PWD officials to undertake preventive measures like the cleaning of culverts and drains. He said they were getting many complaints regarding poor condition of drains. He asked officials to ensure the cleaning of culverts and drains at all places at the earliest.

UPP’s youth convention postponed: The Uttarakhand Parivartan Party (UPP) has postponed its proposed student and youth convention that was supposed to be held in Nainital on August 28. According to a statement issued by chairman of the parliamentary board of the party Mahesh Chandra Kandpal, the event has been postponed due to the ongoing agitation by Anna Hazare and inclement weather, as many roads in the region are closed. The convention will now be held in September.

Loan for poly houses: Deputy General Manager of the Reserve Bank of India Shishir Kumar has called upon banking institutions in Nainital to encourage more and more farmers to avail the benefit of loan to set up poly houses for producing vegetables and flowers. At a meeting of the District Co-ordination Committee at Sukhatal, he asked bank officials to process loan applications of farmers willing to set up poly houses on a priority basis. He said the matter of certain banks not coming forward to give loans to farmers under various government schemes would be taken up with their senior officials.

Panel to conduct economic survey: The Champawat administration has constituted a committee to carry out economic survey for the district for 2012. The committee will be headed by District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar Pande. He said work would begun from January 2012 and continue till June. The data will be collected by officials of various departments, including teachers.
