Centre calls meet of HP,J&K and Uttarakhand CMs on farm issues

Dehradun, Sept 1 (PTI) Aiming to prepare an action plan for agriculture in hilly areas, the Centre has called a meeting of Chief Ministers and Agriculture Ministers of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir later this month. The two-day meeting scheduled for September 24-25 would deliberate upon the problems being faced by farmers in hilly areas, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Harish Rawat told reporters here today. In the meeting, suggestions on short-term and long-term measures to revive agriculture would be given and a comprehensive action plan would also be prepared, he added. Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar is expected to attend the meeting, he added. Also, secretaries of various departments concerned and heads of varied research institutes working in the field would also participate in the meeting. Rawat asked state agriculture ministers to attend the meeting with their action plans and status paper.
