Dehradun, Sep 2 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank today flagged off vehicles carrying aromatic plants for free distribution in various parts of the city under "Sugandhit Doon" ( fragrance-filled Doon).Speaking at the function organised by Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP), Nishank said Dehradun would now also be known as "fragrance-filled city" besides its earlier recognition as "green Doon", said an official release here.Stating that aromatic plants cultivation would also strengthen the economy of the state, the Chief Minister said Uttarakhand is the first state in the country which has set up a separate unit for aromatic plants.He said the government has fixed minimum support price for a total of 22 aromatic oils aiming at providing a good market price for the farmers involved in the farming of aromatic plants.Besides, setting up a revolving fund of Rs 50 lakh, the state government has also established 25 micro enterprises at various places for the extraction of oils, Nishank said.Nearly 10,000 farmers have been benefited by CAP by encouraging them to take up the farming of aromatic plants on an area of 1750 hectares, he said, adding, the CAP has already sold aromatic oil worth Rs 8 crore.
