Govt not bound to accept report on caste certificates: Pant

Dehradun, Sep 29 (PTI) The Uttarakhand government today said it was not bound to accept the report of an all-party House committee on issuance of caste certificates to people of backward classes and could make amendments in the report.An all-party House committee was set up to find a solution to the controversy over the issuance of caste certificates to people belonging to SC/ST and OBC categories."The government can amend the report through various consultation process," Parliamentary Affairs minister Prakash Pant told reporters after the report was tabled in the House.Pant�s comments came after members of BSP and UKD asked the government not to accept the report in toto.Earlier, members belonging to both BSP and UKD said the matter of caste certificates had not been redressed properly in the report.For nearly half-an-hour, the din continued over the issue.Pant told reporters outside the House it was not binding on the government to accept the report and, if necessary, amendments could be made in this regard.
