After heavy rains overnight, six members of a family were buried alive today and many others feared trapped in the debris when a landslide caused collapse of four houses just below Daagar-Khark road in Daur Gaon of Narendar block in Tehri district of Uttarakhand today.

The deceased included an aged couple, two women and two minor girls, sources said

Police and civil officers and Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre (DMMC) officials, including District Magistrate Radhika Jha, rushed to the spot.

The Search and Rescue (SAR) team, with help of local people, were able to extract six bodies from the debris while rescue operations were on to find people feared trapped under the debris.

However, the rescue team was finding it difficult to trace the survivors due to the large amount of mud cover over the houses and the DMMC had sought help of para-military forces.

The villagers were of the view that another reason for the mudslide over the houses in the Daur village was that the soil had become loose from several places due to the construction work underway on the Daagar-Khark Road, which they claimed had triggered the landslide.

According to the sources in administration, the deceased have been identified as Ishika, 4 years, Pushpa, 15 years, Prakashi 28 years, Shobha 28 years, Magni Devi Narayan 60 years, and Bhag Singh, 55.
