Uttarakhand introduces Panchayat Raj bill

Dehradun, Sep 28 (PTI) Uttarkhand government today introduced the first Panchayat Raj bill in the state assembly to give more powers at the grass-root level in the hill state.The Uttarakhand Panchayat Raj Bill 2011 was introduced in the House by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant. Two separate acts on zila panchayat and gram panchayat have been clubbed together in the new bill which would be passed in the vidhan sabha tomorrow, said Pant. This is for the first time that pachayat raj bill is all set to take shape in the hill state where successive governments had come under criticism for delaying the legislation."It is a welcome move by the BJP government to introduce the Panchayat Raj Bill," said Avadhash Kaushal, chairperson of RLEK, a Dehra Dun-based NGO working in panchayat raj system.PTI
