8 kiosks razed: As part of its ongoing drive to remove illegal vendors from various parts of the city, a team of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation on Friday razed eight kiosks and five counters. Corporation officials said three trucks that were carrying material had also been impounded.

Leopard killed: A leopard was killed after being reportedly hit by a vehicle near Shyampur in Nalowala village in the Rajaji National Park. This is the fifth incident in the past one year.

Noise pollution: State Director-General of Police Jyoti Swaroop Pandey on Friday asked police chiefs of all districts to take check noise pollution. He said noise pollution was one of the main problems that affected human beings directly and indirectly.

Contract of 2 LPG agencies cancelled:
Acting on complaints of consumers with regard to gross mismanagement of the supply of LPG cylinders, the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam has cancelled the supply contract of two agencies and has also confiscated the security money deposited by the owners of both agencies with it. Both agencies failed to adhere to the contracts signed by them with the nigam regarding the supply of LPG cylinders in Haldwani and Ramnagar. Alternate arrangements are being made by the nigam for the supply of gas in areas where these two agencies were supplying the same.

Women ‘kill’ drunkard: A group of women allegedly killed a drunkard in Suvali village near Dwarahat in Almora. According to reports, Jiwan Singh (54) of Paithani village had allegedly entered the house of Kamla Joshi on September 6 and misbehaved with her. Joshi’s husband works away and she had spent the night away from her house that day. However, when she came back with her children on Wednesday, Jivan Singh was waiting for her. Following a heated exchange of words, he allegedly attacked her with a sickle. When Joshi screaming for help, a group of women from the village came to her aid and allegedly attacked Jiwan Singh who later died. Cross-cases have been registered in the matter.

Multipurpose camp in Nainital: Gangolihat legislator Joga Ram Tamta has ordered that a multipurpose camp be organised in the Narayan Nagar area of Nainital within a fortnight in which people will be made aware of development schemes introduced by the government. The directions were given at an Ambedkar Chaupal held in the area on Friday. The major issue raised by residents of the area was that of an acute power and water crises. The legislator has asked officials to look into the matter and prepare a proposal for providing water to the people under either an Asian Development Bank (ADB) executed scheme or the special component plan.

Implementation of MGNREGA: Minister for Women and Child Development, Rural Development and Culture Vijaya Barthwal has asked officials involved in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to lay special emphasis on the quality of works being done and transparency with regard to the implementation of the scheme. At a meeting with officials in Nainital on Friday , the minister also took up the issue of roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana which have been lying closed on account of incessant rain in the region. She has ordered that these roads be opened on a priority basis.

Suspected poacher arrested: Officials of the Forest Department have arrested a man in the Sona Nadi range of the core zone of the Jim Corbett National Park on the suspicion of being involved in poaching. He has been identified as Jaspal Singh of Uttar Pradesh. However, Jaspal claimed that he entered the area after having lost his way. He is being questioned by the officials.
