Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna ordered commission of inquiry in the alleged scams during Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) rule in state. KL Bhati, retired bureaucrat will head the commission. CM ordered commission on Friday, the day he completed one month in office. Recently Congress legislators wrote a letter and requested Bahuguna to order commission of inquiry to probe BJP’s scam.

Utpal Kumar Singh, secretary to CM confirmed development. “Commission has been constituted, we will provide details later” he told.

In fact Congress had announced on the eve of assembly polls that government will probe 56 BJP scams if Congress voted to power. Now with the Congress in power, it’s political salvo on BJP dose not come as a surprise for many.

Congress had raised issue of scams inside and outside Vidhan Sabha. The much talked about alleged Citurgian land scam is still in court. It was alleged that money exchanged hands in the land deal. Similarly party had attacked then BJP Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank for his alleged involvement in the Kumbh preparation and in the allotment of small hydro power projects, that was later withdrawn by the government.

“On earlier occasion party delegation had demanded high level probe into the scams of BJP’s government, we even met President Pratibha Patil” said Suryakant Dhasmana, state vice president Congress.

It is worth mentioning that after coming to power in 2007, the then BJP CM BC Khanduri had constituted a commission of inquiry to conduct investigations related to irregularities that took place in the different departments from 2002 to 2007, the time when ND Tiwari government ruled in the Uttarakhand. Inquiry Commission was handed over 68 cases out of which investigations were reportedly conducted in as many 60 cases.

“Congress government’s commission of inquiry is nothing but a political vendetta against BJP. Let them probe and find if anything wrong had been done” told former BJP minister and state president Bishan Singh Chupal.

Interestingly in October last year Khanduri government came away with the details of 17 proved cases of financial irregularities during the previous tenure of Congress government.
