Ruckus in Uttarakhand Assembly over law and order issue

Dehra Dun, May 30 (PTI) Opposition BJP today created pandemonium in the Uttarakhand Assembly on the issue of law and order situation in the state, leading to adjournment of the House for the day. Raising the matter during Zero Hour, BJP members led by Leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt demanded immediate discussion through an adjournment motion the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state. Referring to incidents of dacoity in the house of Congress MLA Furkan Ahmed in Roorkee area and murder of a folk singer from Haryana in Haridwar, Bhatt said the law and order situation in the state has collapsed. He demanded that the issue should be discussed immediately through an adjournment motion. Bhatt was supported by his party colleagues, who also urged Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal to allow them to raise the issue. When Kunjwal rejected their demand saying that he would allow them to raise the issue through a Calling Attention Motion, the BJP members trooped into the Well and raised anti- government slogans. The Speaker's repeated requests to the BJP members to resume their seats failed and he adjourned the House twice before calling it a day as the opposition members did not relent. Amid din, the government completed its listed business. Later, talking to reporters, Bhatt said the government has no respect for parliamentary values and was shying away from discussion on important issues. The proceedings have remained disrupted ever since the current session began on Monday as BJP forced adjournment of the House on the opening day as well as yesterday by creating uproar over alleged horsetrading behind resignation of its MLA to pave the way for Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna's election.
