Uttarakhand government unprepared to grapple with escalating dengue cases

Dehradun: Uttarakhand government has failed to check escalating cases of dengue in the state despite tall claims being made in this regard.

State government’s unpreparedness to control dengue can be gauged from the fact that no measures till date have been taken to tackle the menace.

Blood component separator machines have been installed in only two government hospitals apart from four such machines installed at private medical colleges here .

Remarkably, hundreds of dengue cases are reported in the state every year and health department officials brag about their preparedness. But the poor state of health services can be gauged from the fact that separator machines which help in preparing blood platelets are functional in the hospitals of only two districts.
Presently this facility is available at Sushila Tiwari memorial medical college in Haldwani and in a private hospital of Kashipur. This is the reason that dengue cases detected in Hardwar are being referred to hospitals in Dehradun as blood separator machines are not available in the hospitals of the city.
