A 30-year-old male elephant died due to the injuries suffered in a fight with another tusker, forest officials said today.
Three days back, a team of forest officials found the injured elephant near the banks of Sukharo river.
"The tusker suffered major injuries in the throat and one of the
hind legs in a fight with another elephant, and it did not have eat
anything for the last two days," DFO of Lansdowne Forest Division
Narendra Singh Chaudhary said.
During the treatment, the elephant died in Kotdwara Range of Lansdowne Forest Division, he said.
The postmortem of the elephant ascertained that internal bleeding
and excessive loss of blood were the cause behind its death, the forest
official said.
This is the second elephant death in the area in last 15 days.
The STF team of state police had recently recovered a carcass of an
elephant from same forest section, and arrested wildlife poachers and
seized 67-kgs tusk from their possession.
